Annotations will help convey the information contained in the Drawing
Keep in mind
- Sometimes the absence of Annotations conveys information too
- The goal is to communicate to the manufacturer so "rules" are more like guidelines as long as the part is made correctly and consistently
- For additional information, look into ANSIY14.5
CENTERMARKS
CENTERMARKS
Arcs and Slots often times will have Centermarks; sometimes they're automatically added
- Dimensions may be added from the Vertical/Horizontal Extension Lines to obtain center position
NOTES
NOTES
Notes are used to add text for an endless amount of information to be conveyed to the viewer
- Many Drawings have a NOTES field located on the first sheet while other Notes may be added to individual features
CENTERLINES
CENTERLINES
Centerlines are often used to indicate an imaginary line through the center of a part or a hole
- Sometimes you'll need to add a note with the ℄ symbol
BALLOONS
BALLOONS
Balloons are added for callouts to a BOM or a Flagnote
- By default, a balloon would callout the Item Number but it may be customized as needed
SYMBOLS
SYMBOLS
There are many symbols that can be added to provide further detail on your Drawing
- Symbols have codes in SolidWorks such as
- ø = "<MOD-DIAM>"
- ° = "<MOD-DEG>"
- ℄ = "<MOD-CL>"
Knowing these codes is for Advanced Users
TABLES
TABLES
Tables may contain a variety of text that can be customized
- Tables may commonly be used for configurations or cutlists where you have one drawing calling out different forms of a single part
- Think 2x4 wood cut to different lengths for a project
- Building blocks of different widths

GD&T
GD&T is an advanced way of opening up tolerances for the part manufacturer
