The options contain nearly a limitless way to customize the SolidWorks experience to optimize your usability in the software
The ability to customize your experience in SolidWorks makes it the best workflow software for 3D modeling
Only a few of the options are required to be addressed within an introductory course:
Most of these options may be kept to their default values. We’ll go through several Key Options

Snaps are just the Best!
When using the GRID, you’ll want to Snap To it
Performance is where you go if SolidWorks is running slowly
Default Templates is very important! These locations must be properly set
The Drawings Template is the most important
File Locations is another critically important option
Document Templates goes alongside with Default Templates
You may reverse the mouse-zoom here
This folder must be properly set to add Holes. This is important later.

Drafting Standard is very important and mostly effects 2D Drawings.
Most 2D drawings should be ANSI or ANSI-MODIFIED. Within a 3D part, this standard is not important
Annotation Font is typically Century Gothic or Arial
Straight or Bent options may be used
The Default Diameter of the Balloon may be set here. (Tight-Fit adapts to the number of characters)
Notes Font or Leader display are typically customized
Dimension options are very important
Primary Precision is important to pay attention to.
(.12 ≈ 3.14; .123 ≈ 3.142 etc.)
Sometimes □Show Units of Dimensions is useful.
☑Center Between Ext. Lines is recommended
You may be required to customize the Dimension Arrow Sizes
If you want the Grid that you can Snap To, enable it here
Units is extremely important! If you get this wrong, you’ll often have to start over!
IPS or MMGS are the most common standards. Most of what you’ll do is IPS
