SolidWorks is a visual as well as a parametric program. How you see and view things are extremely important. Being able to orient the way you view a model is an essential skill that takes time to master.
Isometric view provides a good look at both the Top, Front, and Right sides of an object.
The easiest way to look at this view is to use the shortcut: CTRL+7
The View Selector gives a visual representation of each view. You first trigger the View Selector then click the desired plane to look NormalTo
Looking Normal-To a Plane or Face is equivalent to standing perpendicular to that plane (Perpendicular = 90°)
If you were to draw at an angle other than 90°, you’ll introduce perspective distortion
If you draw on a plane at an angle other than 90°, then your shape may not actually be what you’re observing it to be!
Notice the effects of perspective-distortion?
View→Modify→Orientation→NormalTo
Spacebar→NormalTo
Ctrl+8 by Default
Display styles dictate how the model is rendered
Typically Shaded with Edges is used but sometimes Hidden Lines Visible must be used
You can reorient the views at any time
For example if the view you're looking at appears like the "FRONT" view , but is labeled "TOP" you may use the Update Standard Views icon to reorient:
NOTE: If you're unsatisfied with the result, you may reset at any time with the Reset Standard Views icon
If you were looking at a view and accidentally zoomed, paned, orbited etc. You may return to that view using the Previous View icon
If you press SPACEBAR followed by clicking the SAVE VIEW icon, you can save useful views for quick use later
SolidWorks>→View→Modify→Pan→LMB and drag around
Ctrl+MWB and drag around
If you ever want to see through a part or an assembly, you may create a section view:
Click the Right view
