COMMANDs

The Command Manager is an adaptive ribbon on the top of the SolidWorks GUI that contains organized tabs with the tools used for that function

• By default, going into the Sketch Environment will bring the Sketch Tab to the forefront etc.
• Right-Click (RMB) a Tab Title to see the available list of tabs you can Hide/Show
• Introduction to SolidWorks only requires a few tabs to begin with
  • Sketch, Features, Evaluate
• If you've lost the CommandManager, RMB the top of the screen and check it on

You can undock the Command Manager

• Click any tab, and drag it out

A toolbox is similar to the Command Manager, but it is a field of tools that are NOT adaptive and will remain visible at all times

• Generally if an item is not usable in the current environment, it will be greyed out
• You may selectively turn toolboxes on/off by RMB the top of the screen and selecting the one you want
• You may dock toolboxes to the edges of the GUI

Often times you may Right-Click (RMB) an empty space in the Graphics Area to see a list of available options

The items shown on the list without expanding the pop-up may be customized

Heads-up View Toolbar

A transparent toolbar in each viewport provides all the common tools required for manipulating the view

The Commands Search allows you to quickly find any command in SolidWorks

When typing a command into the Command Search, you can find where the icon is located by clicking on the eye next to it

NOTE: If you click the eye, don't move the mouse for a few seconds

Throughout SolidWorks, when you click on items, a Pop-Up Menu may appear that will give you a few commonly used tools for the given selection

Use this as often as possible, it will make your life easier!

LMB Customize

• On the Toolbars tab, you may customize some icon features
• You may change icon size here
• You always want to have the CommandManager Enabled

• The Shortcut Bars allows you to add tools to CommandManager Tabs
• Select from the category of interest and DRAG to Tab

The Commands Tab allows you to add tools to CommandManager Tabs

Select from the category of interest and DRAG to Tab

The Keyboard Tab allows you to customize Keyboard Shortcuts

Search and sort as needed. Try assigning “C” to Center Circle

• The Mouse Gestures allows you to customize the Right-Click-Drag Commands
• Drag Commands onto the wheels for the appropriate environment
• You may change the number of gestures. The greater the number, the more accurate you must move your mouse
• Try adding a “Normal-To” to the Part and Assembly environments

There is an advanced method of exporting your settings to other computers, but that won’t be covered in this course
