Relations are geometric constraints that define the entities
Horizontal: A line may be horizontal and/or points/endpoints can be horizontal with respect to each other
Coincident: A line endpoint may be coincident with an Arc, or a centerpoint of an Arc etc.
By default, SolidWorks will automatically add relations
Yellow icons indicate automatic relations
White indicate suggested relations
Green indicate existing relations
Tangency is most commonly used to ensure a LINE is blended into an ARC
(Arcs/Arcs may also be Tangent)
Here are some examples of tangency:
SolidWorks>→File→New
or
New
or
Ctrl+N
Part→Okay
Insert sketch onto Front Plane
Normally your first entity would be snapped coincident with the origin, don’t do this
Menu Bar→Tools→Relations→Add→Select an Endpont→Select Origin→Select Coincident
Sketch Command Manager Tab
Beneath Display/Delete Relation→Add Relation
Select Line
Select Horizontal
The Selection Box “Blue-Box” contains your current selection
Items may be individually deselected by RMB→Delete from within the Blue-Box
You may deselect everything by RMB→Clear Selection
In the case of relations, the suggestions will change based on What’s in the Blue-Box
You may Select/Delete them
View→Hide/Show→Relations
Select the Entity
Click the desired relation icon in Popup Menu (the recommended relation is bold, this isn’t always correct)
This method also works with multiple entities (i.e. Ctrl+Click Point+Line→Coincident; Line+Line→Colinear/Equal/ Parallel/Perpendicular etc.)
