The Title Block contains critical information about the part and the creation of the drawing:
Who created the drawing
Part Name/Number
Drawing Scale/Units
Additional information is usually added in a professional setting but what is contained varies
On this site: Go to Templates and download both Drawing Templates
In SolidWorks (DBL-LMB WON'T OPEN THIS!!!)
File→Open→Navigate to Templates folder→Select the *.DRWDOT file→Open
Be aware, at this state you're going to overwrite your template if you save:
IMMEDIATELY: SaveAs *.SLDDRW (Unless it is your intent to modify your template)
A Drawing Template (*.DRWDOT) may contain information such as view placement, notes etc.
To create 2D Mechanical Drawings, you may Open this file then Save As Drawing (*.SLDDRW)
A Sheet Format (*.SLDDRT) contains only the information contained in the "Edit Sheet Format" environment
This is the template that will change your Title Block
NOTE: If you have an actual model on your drawing when you save it, every drawing you ever create/open will try to open that file
PRO-TIP: ONCE YOU'VE SAVED YOUR FILES, RMB Template→Properties→Attributes→Check Read-Only
Similar to the Sketch Environment, you may enter the Sheet Format environment
RMB Graphics Area→Edit Sheet Format
Here you may double-LMB Notes to change text values
To Exit,
Check it out or
RMB→Edit Sheet
While editing sheet format, try RMB→Title Block Fields→Select items you'd want to change without entering the Edit Sheet Format environment (Name, date etc.)
DBL-LMB Annotations→Type in desired information
When one sheet isn't enough to convey the proper amount of information:
LMB Insert Sheet Icon
To remove a sheet:
RMB Sheet Tab→Delete
To change the sheet format:
RMB Sheet (in drawing tree)→Properties→Browse (Sheet Format/Size)→DBL-LMB Desired Format (*.slddrt)
In this introductory course, you won't really use this feature and you wouldn't do it too often professionally as you'll generally use a single format
Predefined views save some time if you're constantly inserting Front, Top, Right, Iso views
Insert→Predefined View→Front→LMB View
Project that view
Save Template
In a new browser tab, navigate to the Templates page→Download the Drawing Template Files→Open them in SolidWorks→Add your name to the Title Block→Save them to your own Templates folder (Make them Read-Only to avoid accidentally altering)
